چکیده

The dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius, one-humped camel) is an important livestock species adapted to hot and arid environments. It is most abundant in the arid lowlands of Africa, the Middle East and Western Asia. The economic importance of this multipurpose animal is evident from the numerous benefits provided by camel products (meat, milk, wool). Moreover, the camel serves for riding, as a beast of burden and as a draft animal for agriculture and transport.

Isolation and molecular characterization of partial FSH and LH receptor genes in Arabian camels (Camelus dromedarius)

Very little is known about LHR and FSHR genes of domestic dromedary camels. The main objective of this study was to determine and analyze partial genomic regions of FSHR and LHR genes in dromedary camels for the first time. To this end, a total of 50 DNA samples belonging to dromedary camels raised in Iran were sent for sequencing (25 samples of each gene). We compared the nucleotide sequences ...

Use of assisted reproduction for the improvement of milk production in dairy camels (Camelus dromedarius).

Despite their production potential and ability to survive on marginal resources in extreme conditions, dromedaries have not been exploited as an important food source. Camels have not been specifically selected for milk production, and genetic improvement has been negligible. High individual variation in milk production both within the population and within breeds provides a good base for selec...

Predisposing factors in enterotoxemias of camels (Camelus dromedarius) caused by Clostridium perfringens type A.

C. perfringens type A was isolated from different organs and intestines from breeding and racing camels which died from peracute and acute enterotoxemias in two separate outbreaks. Pathological changes in the digestive tract were mild in breeding camels, and severe in racing camels. A polyvalent clostridial antiserum of bovine origin given intravenously had a life-saving effect on breeding came...
